Katelyn Hunter is an experienced securities and employment lawyer. She has represented numerous broker-dealers and investment banks in securities industry disputes before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”). Representative matters include defending against customer claims of fraud, unsuitability, failure to supervise, breach of fiduciary duty and negligence. Ms. Hunter has also defended broker-dealers in employment matters before FINRA. Such matters involved claims of wrongful termination, unfair business practices, tortious interference with business advantage, and violations of the California Labor Code. Additionally, Ms. Hunter has prosecuted numerous FINRA promissory note collection actions, securing multimillion-dollar awards for financial institutions.
Ms. Hunter has litigated several matters in California state and federal courts, recently filing a successful Motion to Dismiss multiple claims in a family limited partnership dispute in the Central District of California. She has represented financial institutions in interpleader matters and has litigated adversary matters in federal bankruptcy court. Additionally, she has advised various financial institutions regarding the recovery of outstanding debts in the context of bankruptcy filings.
Outside of the arbitration and litigation settings, Ms. Hunter advises financial institutions on matters relating to all aspects of industry compliance. She holds her Series 65 license and is well-versed in Securities Exchange Commission and blue-sky rules and regulations.
Additionally, Ms. Hunter advises clients on entity formation and operational issues in the context of securities laws and business planning strategies.
Prior to joining Palmer Hunter & Hall, Ms. Hunter practiced with Palmer, Lombardi & Donohue in Los Angeles, California. She attended UC Berkeley, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and UCLA Law School, where she was a member of the Law Review and a Teaching Assistant for Legal Research and Writing.
